Topic Talk—Elephants, Donkies, & Puppies. Oh! My!

Give a round of applause for our final featured GNO Gals in this week's election-themed Topic Talk posts:

See more Natalie Portman videos at Funny or Die

Spookiez Spot writes a short post about her DD on election day entitled "Why You SHOULDN'T Take Your Children to Vote." Her reason?
Because if they are a certain psycho opinionated 6 year old, with zero social inhibitions about making their voice heard, who really thinks that 6 year olds should be able to vote, AND only knows the name on one candidate, it can really turn into an embarrassing thing! LOL!

It was not easy to fill out my ballot with DD yelling at me "BUT I WANNA VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN!!!" doh

Momma Blogs a Lot provides three fun videos, including the Natalie Portman and Rashida Jones bit featured above. Check out her blog for more election-related video skits and commericals.

Mommy Wizdom provides several election-related posts and even hosted an Election-Night Blog party complete with prizes. This is one fun gal's blog you definitely want to check out.

Peanut Butter & Lullabies expresses her heartfelt sentiments in an election letter to children. She provides them with great advice, including this:

Remember that it is OK to vote your conscience. Your morals, your religion, your family, and your life experiences are what makes you who you are today. The vote that you cast is for the society that you hope for. Never apologize for standing up for what you believe in.

My Kids Registry shares the reasons why she voted for Obama and expresses her feelings on prejudice. In it, she writes:

I did not vote for Barack Obama because of his race or because he is a democrat. I voted for him because of his performance as a person and what he stands for, what he wants for America and the people. His presence is a strong one and I am confident he will be a great president.

I wish and it’s my hope as a parent that we as a country teach the generation of tomorrow that there is no color and stop using nationality & race as a roadblock for success.

Topic Talk 3.2—Fab Five to Freaky Candidate

I don't know about you, but I can hardly hear myself think with all this chanting. (Insert wild crowd screaming "Fab Five, Fab Five, Fab Five" loudly in unison here) I decided it'd be best to fore go any other introductory remarks and get right to our fabulous five featured GNO Gals for today! (Insert suspense building music.)

.

And the winners are (tiaras please):

The Real Working Women urges people to vote, providing historical voter-turn-out statistics and comparing how we rank with foreign countries. She says ....

In his article entitled “Why Vote?” Peter Singer, professor of bioethics at Princeton University, wrote, “When voting is voluntary, and the chance that the result will be determined by any single person’s vote is extremely low, even the smallest cost—for example, the time it takes to stroll down to the polling place, wait in line, and cast a ballot—is sufficient to make voting seem irrational. Yet, if many people follow this line of reasoning, and do not vote, a minority of the population can determine a country’s future, leaving a discontented majority.

A Cup of Tea offers her Christian perspective, including such heartfelt sentiments as this:

Friends, families, colleagues, and fellow Christians were divided over this election. Once a person is fully convinced in his or her own mind, there is no reason for debating issues. All debating does is cause division and strife; hence, is it really worth it? Absolutely not!

Connect With Your Teens encourages parents to discuss the election with their teens by providing 10 pop culture-related conversation starters. If you don't have teens? These funny election facts are perfect for kids from 13 to 93. Her post comes complete with links to sites, providing complete information each topic.

The Neurotic Mom describes her voting experience, which catered to both young and old. This picture shows a table where kids could vote. What an awesome idea for a way to engage kids in the voting process!

Pulsipher Predilections shares a very unique and weird election post. I relate with this, because she lives in my state. The man you see here was one of the candidates for Utah State Governor. No lie! And, this former computer-store owner, got not one but 22,000 votes. Read her witty post to learn more about Superdell (Yep! That's what he goes by.)

And, I couldn't resist. Had to add this video to the mix too. Get a load of this guy!

Topic Talk 3.1—Obama Boys & Presidential Boyfriends!

What a wide array of election-related posts we received for Topic Talk this week. From yesterday's Presidential Cabbage Patch Dolls to today's Presidential Boyfriends, you are in for a real treat!

Let's hear it for today's featured five!

The Daily Blonde provides a heartfelt post on what this election and its outcome means to her. Here's one small excerpt....

My son who is 10 years old and extremely in tune with life, asked me before bed, "Mom, will this mean that more people can become big things no matter how they look or what color they are?" How awesome that I can wake him up in the morning and say, "Yes, we've made history while you were sleeping.

Happily Ever After Land writes a snarky pre-election post, commenting on the power the media played in this election and people's superficial reasons for choosing candidates. She puts three disclaimers at the bottom of this baby. Anyone not interested in reading it now? LOL

The Mother of All Trips writes her post the day before election day, talking about her dreams of a better world and how this election will impact her children.

The Mother of All Trip's kids, sporting Obama stickers the day before the election.

Kids Off the Couch writes not one, but two amazing posts for ways to engage your kids in the election process. Even though the main event is over, these are great interactive learning tools to use with your kids. And, while on this blog, we highly recommend signing up for the Kids Off the Couch weekly e-newsletter.

Bloggedy Blog Blog gives us an international perspective on the election when she writes about... well, um, let me put it her words:

For Canada, watching your American elections is like watching a big sister pick a new boyfriend. A more popular, slimmer, blonder version of yourself... out playing the field and flirting and making a choice of dance partner for the next four years.

We stand by idly as you bat your eyelashes, cast possible suitors aside between conventions and debates and eventually you set your sights on the two most viable contestants for the position of... boyfriend. Oh, and you talk about it day and night, like we have nothing going on in our lives that you care about, but that's a story for another day.

She then goes on to describe a variety of presidential "boyfriends" from Kennedy to Reagan to our president-elect Obama, providing pics of each one (we even borrowed the George Washington you see up top from her). All I can say is that if you are in the mood to laugh, click on over to Saucy's site!

Topic Talk 3.0—The Election

Wow! What a fantastic GNO last night. We talked each other's ears off, gave away a prize, ranked second in the Twitter Top Trending Groups. got some donations for the GNO Cares fundraiser, and received a ton of Topic Talk submissions.

Without further ado, let's give a hoot and a hollar for these Great GNO Gals—our first features in this week's Topic Talk.

Nice Shoes! talks about her fascination with this year's election and the impact it has had on the public. Read on....

What keeps me fascinated...is the long lines. When is the last time that we have seen so many individuals engaged in the process? With the economic climate in the state that it is in, more and more people are recognizing how much of an impact they have in being a part of the process. It is no longer just political...it is personal.

Homeschool Blogger Cindy writes about, what she calls, "A Homeschooler's dream"—taking her kids to a presidential rally.

Parenting Pink provides a hysterical take on political paraphernalia.

June Cleaver Nirvana talks about an election-related struggle she had with her son that started off like this:

When do we find out if you win?

Honey, I am not running for president of the United States.

Why not?

I already have a job.

Please mommy! Please, just think about it. I really want you to be president.

That is really sweet of you, but no, I am not running for president.
Visit her blog for the complete story.

Gohn Crazy talks about her voting experience and even provides video of the lines. Get enthused about your freedom to vote all over again when you read her post. (The pic at the top of this post is of her from her blog.)
